Blogference and cocktail parties

On Sunday, Adam and myself attended a cocktail party for Internet entrepreneurs and bloggers as part of Blogference 2007.
Adam had secured two invitations via the.co.ils, an Israeli blog on Internet and technology.

The first order of business was finding the place, which was more difficult than you might expect. Being that we live in Tel Aviv, where the event was taking place, we actually walked from home to the street that was named on the invitation. However, we were staring at a building with a street #6, and a building with a street #2 which supposedly means we were standing next to #3 which was our destination, but somehow it was not presenting itself. We started walking in some vague general direction, stopping to ask innocent bystanders whom we trusted to know where this building might be, and after a 15 minute walk (!) we found building #3 to be in a completely different area. So much for street numbers and common sense.

The party itself was the first of its kind that I had attended. We were by far the youngest people at the event, which probably means one of two things: A) We were at the wrong place, or B) We have a head start on most entreprenuers in this industry. Personally I would like to go with B.

We spent most of the evening “enjoying” the diluted drinks, cracking wise remarks on the stereotypes around us (I wonder which one would we fit). We even managed to pull off some networking, as Ronny Farkash from Fixya introduced himself and engaged Adam in a lengthy conversation on Web 2.0 and technical support (it will never cease to amaze me how much Adam can talk. I guess some people have ‘The Gift’).

I will also mention that this event was sponsored by Sequoia Capital, and one the Israeli partners at Sequoia, Shmil Levy, was sitting two meters from us, apparently on a cheque writing spree. Adam was telling me “Eran do you see that? 5 million dollars are sitting two meters from you”. Apparently some people are interested in this kind of thing ;)

I had to cut early since I was awake for a very long time, and still had to push Lionite’s homepage out. I got home at 23:00, and after some crunch time with our leading man in design, Tal Zubalsky, we cranked out a first draft at around 03:00. Check it now and take some screen caps cause it will undergo some major updates in the near future.
